Reverse your life exactly one year ago. Remember anything particular?  I do.  I remember my heart bursting.  Thump, thump, thump, thump.  Chris and I heard Van's heartbeat for the first time.  Ah- tears are forming right now as I think about that glorious rhythmic sound.  We told our family that day.  My mom was so happy and my dad had to sit down after hearing the good news.  We intentionally made plans with Woodie, Gigi, and the boys to go trick or treating with them and to show the ultrasound picture.  Oy- that was another tearful moment with my sister.  Halloween 2008.  We did get our treat.

Six weeks into life

As excited parents to be, we bought this Halloween onesie for Van a year ago- on sale, of course.

Van enjoying his Halloween outfit- thank you aunt Sandy.
Trick or treat.  Smell my feet.  Give me something good to eat.

BFF

When Van was a newborn, I would nurse him often which meant 3am.  After a cuddle and a kiss goodnight, I'd go downstairs for some water and this was what I discovered...

Fitzgerald was just as exhausted as the rest of the family.  Luv da puppy.  I didn't have the heart to get him off of the couch because since Van came into this family, Fitzgerald has been kicked out of our bed :(

A few weeks later...

Now this was becoming a habit.  How did he get himself looped through hanging toy arch thingy?  He was claiming territory by knocking off all things baby.

Fitzgerald has loved Van from the start.  He naps with Van in his room, scouts out the neigborhood for potential wrong doers during family walks, herds their crazy grandmother away from Van and even will eat his dirty diapers.  Once Van starts dropping food, Fitzgerald will know exactly where to sit during dinner.  Good puppy.

New to the game

I don't Facebook, Twitter, or text. I consider my cell phone as an emergency tool. I've lived without cable for six years and liked it. I liked being off the grid... until I became a mom. Since then, I find myself looking at life in blog posts. Photograph Van's first poo. Videotape him sleeping in his crib for two solid hours. Describe in 50 words or less how utterly joyful it is to be his mom. Since my brain is wired to be a blog, I might as well share. So, get ready. I'm joining the league of a million bloggers. AND the first picture will not be of his poo :)
